My Square Gardening Method Experiment

I love all aspects of gardening, whether it is growing a vegetable garden or having a English cottage style flower garden. My favourite time of the year is spring when all my perennials start popping up amongst the snow. The first one's up are usually my tulips and daffodils which show their sunny heads in an array of colours. I primarily have my flower beds in my front yard as I have only so much space in my backyard which I reserve mostly for growing my own fruit trees and vegetables.

This year I am going to try out the Square Gardening method where you use raised garden bed kits to make a vegetable garden. Not only does this method require less space but you are supposed to get the same amount of produce while only using about 20% of the room. As I do have children who still like to run around and play in the backyard, this gardening method seems like the best of both worlds. I still have other garden beds where I have fruit trees as well as different berry bushes such as raspberries and chokecherries (these make the best jams and syrups). I choose to grow my own produce as I know that it is organic as well as it is cheaper than having to buy it.

Even though I am planning on using raised beds for some of my vegetable growing, I still need to make sure that I upkeep my other beds with mulching and rot-o-tilling. This past year, I finally splurged and bought myself a new Troy-Bilt Electric Cultivator as I was tired of lugging around our larger gas tiller which I found was cumbersome. With my new electric cultivator, I know can get my tilling done in a matter of a few hours instead of making it an all day project.

My Ugly Lawn Was Horrible and I Needed to Make It Look Better

King's Lawn Service in Rogers, AR | King's Lawn CareThere were a lot of things that I needed to learn when I wanted to have a nice lawn. I had always lived in apartments where I did not do my own lawncare so I never a chance to learn how to do the things that other people seemed to know how to do with their lawns. When I bought my house the front lawn looked absolutely horrible and I had no idea how to fix it. It was sparse and there were many areas where the dirt showed through which looked horrible. My neighbor had a beautiful lawn so I decided to ask him how he got it that way. He told me that I should go on and find out how to apply fertilizer in order to make my lawn grow thicker and greener. After looking up all of the information I was sure that I could manage to make my lawn look much better.

The Internet Making Thing Easier

Great Customer Service is Our GoalThe internet has made it easier for consumers to find great deals. This is especially true when it comes to hydroponic stores. If I look back a few years, I was paying almost three times the amount for the same equipment. This is crazy when you think about it. Today, I can build three times the grow room compared to three years ago. This is great. I now have a career building grow rooms for friends and other clients.

Just because you can find great prices online, you have to be careful to not find the wrong place to buy. Making an improper choice can lead to a great deal of headaches. This is something you want to avoid. Look for experience and great customer service. Make sure that they answer your calls and/or emails. This is one of the most important aspects you can focus on. Never settle for just the lowest possible price.

Weed Eater WEB160 Electric Leaf Blower

Consumers currently in the market for an Electric Leaf Blower should consider looking at the Weed Eater WEB160 blower. This blower is better suited for lighter to moderate duty applications that are often seen in residential environments. Many times a bigger leaf blower is simply not needed to get the job done, and this little leaf blower packs some serious power.

The Weed Eater WEB160 is without argument one of the most compact and lightest blowers on the market at only 4.5lbs. Regardless of its smaller size, this blower can still push air at speeds up to 160MPH, plenty for basic yard work. Its small size allows for easier mobility and maneuvering to clear out tight spaces in garages, sheds, etc.

This Electric Leaf Blower has been on the market just long enough to have gotten many great reviews online at places such as Amazon. People are saying very good things about this product, infact out of almost 50 online reviews, 95% of these consumers reported to be extremely satisfied with this product. Typically consumers only leaf reviews when they are not satisfied with a product or feel that they have been ripped off, however that is simply not the case here. This leaf blower has created quite a name for itself and deserves some serious consideration in place of its bigger competitors.

The only drawback on this blower is that its bigger competitors are often times equipped with vacuum and mulching capabilities, and this little blower lacks these features. However if you do not need any of these features and are just looking for a tool to blow leaves or clear debris from your property then this tool can handle the job for you with ease. So before jumping all in and spending hundreds on a unit you may not need, consider giving the Weed Eater WEB160 a chance at proving itself.

What Are the Benefits of Buying a Used Wood Chipper Versus a New One?

There are several advantages to buying a used wood chipper for sale rather than trying to buy a new one. One advantage of buying used wood chippers for sale, is that you can often find them for 50% to 65% less than you would expect to pay for them brand new. This means that a $1500 wood chipper, would cost you between five and $700. You could buy a used wood chipper that is 4 to 5 years old.

When you are buying used, you want to make sure that you are buying a quality chipper and that there are no problems with using it. Also I would not recommend that you buy a chipper that is more than four or five years old unless it has very little use on it and it has been in fairly good condition. Otherwise, you may be asking for trouble. Once a wood chipper has reached a certain age or use level, it may start needing to have parts replaced, and this could be very expensive.

Protect Your Patio Set with a Plastic Cover

If you own a garden patio or bistro set and live in a country which endures cold and wet weather in the winter it's definitely worth considering buying yourself a patio set cover to protect your garden furniture until the summer arrives again. Many people spend a small fortune by themselves top quality garden furniture and then neglect to protect the furniture suitably during the harsh winter weather conditions. If you're buying a patio set cover you should invest in one that is a decent quality. Cheap and poor quality patio set covers don't stand up well to wet and windy conditions and begin to leak after a while, causing damp and water damage to wooden garden furniture in particular. There are dozens of online and furniture websites these days selling an extensive range of patio set covers so it's quite easy to find a bargain if you hunt around for a while.

Maybe Flower Folks Are Funny

As one radio program tries to demonstrate, there is something queer about most of us. In fact we admit that everyone but thee and we are, and sometimes we wonder about thee. Well after all flower lovers are people. Wherever one puts in his time he has to have some moments of relaxation and fun, and a home greenhouse is no exception.

So many patrons are coming and going that according to the law of averages some of them are bound to break the monotony of a breaking back something that they say.

For instance it is a fairly common request for a plant that will bloom all of the time and give no trouble. That subject seemed nearly solved this spring when a couple came in and stated their case thus: they had a large back yard but did not have the time to care for it or keep the weeks down so they had decided to plant it all to strawberries qnd then their troubles would all be over. The strawberries would keep the weeds out. They would have fruit and a care-free life. They were sincere about it.

One man watched us making mum cuttings and after his curiosity got the best of him he asked what they were and why. We told him we would root them in sand and they would each make a plant. "Will they really bloom?" he asked. Assured that they would. He said, "I'll bet they grow awful slow if they do grow." His next question was, "How many years will it take them to make blooming sized plants?" We told him that they would bloom next fall or sooner if shaded. When he left his attitude plainly said that someone was trying to kid someone.

One lady called on the phone for a certain kind of plant and was told that there was none large enough to bloom yet. "Well," she said, "I will not need them till the middle of the week and you know how to force them, don't you?"

Another complained that an angel wing begonia she had gotten six weeks before was dying. When asked how she watered it she replied that she had watered it once since she had gotten it.

A man who had been studying on how to make his garden yield, told us the cabbage plants he had planted a few days before were dead. He had watered them but they had dried up.

Upon asking how he had planted them he told us he had dug a hole for each plant, put a cup of vigero in it and planted the cabbage.

With all respect to everyone, just what color would you get for a colored lady who asked for flesh colored gladiolus?

One does gain some rather amazing information too. One party brought us a book of flower growing directions and one soil mixture recommended had one measure of Portland cement along with the usual ingredients. Some plants do prefer a firm soil, but there are limits.

Another person was shocked to think not all people believed that miracles were still being performed on earth. She gave us her proof that right here in this town, (and yours too likely), there are people who could take trees and plant them upside down, with the roots in the air and they would grow. When asked what they looked like, she said, "They grow something like an umbrella." What a surprise this must be for the caltalpa Bungei trees!

Banana Trees Give Your Landscape a Tropical Feel

When you think of a tropical location, you most likely picture large lush green palm trees. There are a number of tropical plants and trees that have been developed to grow in other climates besides the tropics. The banana trees are very hardy and can survive even in 20 degree weather if they are properly mulched. They are mainly ornamental and the fruit that they produce is not edible. But they are an amazing tree to plant and at maturity they are around 15 feet tall with large leaves that can measure several feet long. They grow fast and don't require much upkeep, but they like a sunny spot and good draining soil. When the weather is warm they can grow two feet a week. These interesting trees will definitely give your space a tropical feeling. They can produce flowers and fruit when they reach approximately 10 feet, or when they have 35 leaves.

My Garden is Like a Beautiful Painting Come to Life

To many people a garden is just a plot of land where one grows vegetables. To me it is much, much more. First off, I clear the canvas. I have just a blank patch devoid of any furniture like sheds or gazebo accessories or whatnot. The fencing I have put around it is like a frame. The soil, so carefully tilled, weeded and planted is my canvas. The plants, tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, squash, cucumbers, so carefully laid out and watered, become the different colors of paint I use to make a picture that only nature could present. Starting the seeds indoors, watering day after day, and weeding, weeding, weeding, have made the picking and filling the baskets all the more sweet. But there is something more. I can stand at the head of the garden for an hour and just look at the beautiful painting I have created and wonder. It's almost a sacred connection to something very ancient, very mysterious, yet right there in front of me in the blazing hot sun.

Grow Your Cherry Tomatoes from Seed

Cherry tomatoes were originally grown in South America. It is believed they were fist cultivated by the Conquistadors. The botanical name for cherry tomatoes is Solanum Lycopersicum Var. Cerasiforme. They are believed to be the ancestors of all modern tomato varieties. Cherry tomatoes were made accessible to most everyone in 1973 by Israeli Scientists Prof. Nachum Kedar and Prof. Haim Rabinowitch.Everyone knows that home-grown tomatoes have superior flavor. If you have ever eaten a mushy, tasteless grocery store tomato, you know why home grown is best. Cherry tomato seeds are easily grown in your own yard. Start by choosing which variety you desire to grow. 'Sweet 100' and 'Gardeners Delight' are the two most popular varieties. Make sure to plant your seeds in an area that gets full sun and use plenty of compost. Water your seedlings every two days, and be sure two fertilize them every two weeks. Use wooden stakes if necessary to prop up your plants.

Key Points for Selecting a Lawn Sweeper

There are two types of lawn sweeper designed to pick up cut grass, leaves, and small twigs--a manual push or a tractor pull-behind. For small yards, small jobs, a push model is a good option if you are physically fit. For large yards, one that hitches to your garden tractor or riding lawn mower makes the most sense. The holding capacity is perhaps the most important consideration since frequent stops to dump the contents will be necessary. On a push model, tall wheels make pushing through all terrain much easier. On a pull-behind, the largest width of the lawn sweeper will save on time and trips to the compost heap to dump the catcher. A dethatcher attachment can be added to a pull-behind model.

Lawn sweepers designed to blow grass and leaves come in hand-held electric or gas units with varying amounts of power commensurate with its wattage or horse power. The most powerful gas sweepers are on wheels and pushed, which is ideal for large parking areas, basketball/tennis courts, and well-manicured lawns. A simple electric model that is lightweight works very well to blow leaves into a pile.

Termites In Forest Ecology

Tropical forest ecosystems are called the carbon sinks of the world for good reason; they are believed to store massive amounts of carbon in them, and that is why their destruction is compounding the environmental problems of the world. One insect that is essential to tropical forest functioning is the humble termite. Termites help tropical forests by recycling the wood in these forests back into the atmosphere.

The amount of wood consumed by termites in tropical forests is immense. Many forest trees die standing and their branches fall to the ground slowly, while the main trunk stands upright for years. These dead trees provide food for many termites. The wood is slowly turned into nitrogen by different species of termites. Some eat the wood direct and digest it in their gullet, while others chew up the wood and bring it back to their nests to farm fungi. In this way, most of the wood that decays in tropical forests are recycled back into the system.
